The Regional Government of Madeira has published Ordinance no. 249/2026, which establishes the new regulatory framework for granting financial support to private education and teaching establishments in the Region. This diploma, which revokes Ordinance no. 103/2011 and its successive amendments, aims to systematize into a single instrument the financing rules for nurseries, kindergartens, primary, secondary, and vocational education.
This diploma enters into force on the day following its publication, taking effect from the 2025-2026 school year, reinforcing the importance of the private sector in the regional school network.
Regional Government Council Resolution No. 867/2026 authorizes the signing of simple contracts with 27 private institutions to support operational and social action costs during the 2026/2027 school year.
The Regional Government has approved a sponsorship contract of 141,050 euros for the Funchal Dance School, the only institution in the Region providing specialized artistic education in an articulated regime.
The Regional Government Council Resolution No. 868/2026 authorises cooperation agreements with 21 Private Social Solidarity Institutions to support operational and school social action costs.
