Regional Government creates office to support Madeirans in Venezuela after earthquakes
The Regional Government of Madeira has created a temporary mission structure to coordinate the humanitarian response and support for Madeiran communities affected by the earthquakes in Venezuela.
Following the earthquakes that struck the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela on June 24, 2026, the Regional Government Council approved, through Resolution no. 655/2026, the creation of the Humanitarian Support Coordination Office for Venezuela.
This interdepartmental and temporary mission structure aims to centralize the response of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, ensuring swift and effective action. The Office will be coordinated by the Presidency of the Regional Government, through the Regional Directorate for Communities and External Cooperation (DRCCE), with the participation of the Regional Secretariat for Health and Civil Protection and the Regional Secretariat for Inclusion, Labour and Youth.
The main competencies of the Office include:
- Collection and screening of information on affected Madeirans and Portuguese descendants;
- Defining priorities in humanitarian response and channeling material and financial support;
- Coordination with national and international entities, such as the Embassy of Portugal in Caracas and the Consulate-General;
- Provision of immediate psychological support through SESARAM, EPERAM;
- Implementation of solidarity measures, including fundraising campaigns and collection of goods.
