Ordinance No. 431/2026 has been published, defining the powers and functioning of the Monitoring and Assessment Commission for Combating Iodine Deficiency in the Autonomous Region of Madeira. This commission was created under Regional Legislative Decree No. 6/2025/M, which establishes structural measures to combat iodine deficiency in the population.

The commission, whose composition was finalised by Dispatch No. 123/2026, is chaired by a representative of the regional health secretariat and includes representatives from the Medical Association and the Nutritionists Association. It meets regularly every two months and its functioning is logistically supported by the Regional Health Directorate.
The Regional Secretariat for Health and Civil Protection reallocates budgetary charges under the Recovery and Resilience Plan for mental health units, with a net increase of 120,900 euros.
The Regional Health Secretariat authorized an increase of nearly 93,000 euros in the budget for the requalification of integrated long-term care units, raising the total amount to over 4.4 million euros.
The capacity of the elderly support establishment was formally increased after modernization works financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan.
