The Madeira Social Security Institute will finance 12 urgent and priority care beds at the Santa Casa da Misericórdia da Calheta, under a multi-year agreement.
The Regional Government has authorized the Madeira Social Security Institute (ISSM, IP-RAM) to make a financial commitment of 195,230.88 euros for the years 2026 and 2027. The amount is intended for the signing of a Cooperation Agreement with the Santa Casa da Misericórdia da Calheta, with the specific objective of financing 12 urgent and priority care beds in a residential facility for the elderly (ERPI).
The measure, published through Ordinance No. 500/2026 of September 9, aims to provide a swift response to the occupation of hospital beds by elderly patients who are clinically discharged but have no family support or other means to return home.

The agreement takes effect retroactively from September 1, 2026. The ordinance also establishes the possibility of updating the amounts, subject to budgetary availability, based on updates to the standard monthly contribution per user, currently set at 1,355.77 euros.
