Government Declares Public Utility for Roundabout on ER 120 in Vila Baleira

The Government Council authorized the expropriation of land in Porto Santo for the construction of a roundabout on Regional Road 120, aiming to increase road safety.

The Regional Government of Madeira approved a resolution declaring the expropriation of real estate necessary for the execution of the "Implementation of a Roundabout on ER 120 - Vila Baleira" project in Porto Santo as a public utility. The decision, taken in a plenary meeting on September 10, aims to improve safety and traffic flow at an intersection considered problematic.

The intervention aims to enhance safety, regulate traffic, reduce the approach speed to the intersection, and lower the risk of accidents. The new roundabout will also allow for more efficient management of traffic movements, including direction changes and entries onto the main road.

The lands to be expropriated, identified in an annex to the resolution, are as follows:

  • A rural property of 160 m², owned by Paulo Henrique Gonçalves Câmara, located in Porto Santo.
  • A rural property of 253 m², owned by Matthias Folkers, also located in Porto Santo.

The expropriation will be conducted by the Regional Directorate of Heritage, and the costs will be borne by the budget of the Autonomous Region of Madeira. The resolution was published under the reference Regional Government Council Resolution No. 877/2026.
