The Regional Government has authorized the financial distribution for the renovation of the equipment in the Caniçal Tunnel, representing a total investment of 1.5 million euros.
The distribution of budgetary charges for the "Renovation of the Caniçal Tunnel Equipment" contract has been officially authorized. The decision is contained in Ordinance No. 392/2026, signed by the Regional Secretary of Finance, Elsa Maria dos Santos Fernandes, and the Regional Secretary of Equipment and Infrastructure, Pedro Alexandre Fagundes de Freitas Rodrigues.
The total value of the procedure is 1,500,000.00 euros (one million five hundred thousand euros), plus VAT at the applicable legal rate. The investment will be distributed across the economic years of 2026 and 2027, with the following breakdown:
The budget for 2026 is already covered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira's budget for that year, being allocated under the Secretariat 50 heading. This investment aims to modernize and ensure the safety and functionality of the equipment in one of the island's most important road tunnels.
The public utility status has been declared for the expropriation of land needed for the regularization and channeling of the Ribeiro da Raiz stream in Curral das Freiras, aiming to mitigate flood risks.
