Government authorizes association contracts with seven private schools
The Regional Secretariat for Education, Science and Technology has approved the budgetary distribution for initial association contracts with seven private educational establishments, securing their funding until August 2027.
The Regional Government of Madeira, through the Regional Secretariats for Education, Science and Technology and for Finance, has published a set of ordinances authorizing the distribution of budgetary charges for the signing of initial association contracts. These legal instruments secure public funding for the operation and social school action of seven private educational establishments in the region, covering the period from September 2026 to August 2027.
Association contracts are a mechanism provided for by law that allows the State to fund private schools, ensuring educational provision in areas where the public network is insufficient. The amounts now authorized are spread over the 2026 and 2027 fiscal years and are supported by the budget of the Management and Planning Unit Office of the SRE.
The educational establishments and their respective managing entities covered are:
- Colégio Infante D. Henrique, managing entity: Portuguese Province of the Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus via Ordinance No. 441/2026. Total amount: €2,177,231.16 (Operation) + €44,199.75 (School Social Action).
- Escola São João - Externato, managing entity: Province of the Heart of Mary of the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Victories via Ordinance No. 442/2026. Total amount: €499,584.21 (Operation) + €15,363.35 (School Social Action).
- Escola Sant' Ana - Externato, managing entity: Province of the Heart of Mary of the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Victories via Ordinance No. 443/2026. Total amount: €475,460.50 (Operation) + €18,838.80 (School Social Action).
- Escola Santo Condestável, managing entity: Province of the Heart of Mary of the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Victories via Ordinance No. 444/2026. Total amount: €513,511.58 (Operation) + €18,838.80 (School Social Action).
- Escola Nossa Senhora da Conceição - Externato, managing entity: Province of the Heart of Mary of the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Victories via Ordinance No. 445/2026. Total amount: €459,398.95 (Operation) + €180.00 (School Social Action).
- Externato S. Francisco de Sales - Gaula, managing entity: Educational Centers of the Presentation of Mary (Madeira) - Association via Ordinance No. 446/2026. Total amount: €692,253.15 (Operation) + €28,434.45 (School Social Action).
- Externato S. Francisco de Sales - Prazeres, managing entity: Educational Centers of the Presentation of Mary (Madeira) - Association via Ordinance No. 447/2026. Total amount: €643,864.59 (Operation) + €16,630.70 (School Social Action).
All ordinances were signed by the Regional Secretary Elsa Fernandes and the Regional Secretary for Finance Duarte Freitas, and came into force immediately.
