Santana Youth Centre will continue to serve as University of Madeira student accommodation until 13 December 2026. The extension is intended to provide housing during the transition to the new residence at Quinta de São Roque.
The Regional Government has extended the use of Santana Youth Centre as a University of Madeira (UMa) student residence until 13 December 2026. The decision is set out in Regional Government Council Resolution No. 989/2026, dated 19 October.
The extension allows the centre to continue accommodating university students from São Tomé and Príncipe enrolled at UMa for the 2026/2027 academic year, until the conditions are in place for their transfer to the Quinta de São Roque University Residence. The new facility is nearing completion, but still requires final works and procedures before it can open.
The measure also covers young people from São Tomé who have completed their studies but remain in the Region for reasons related to the certification of their diplomas. According to the resolution, continuing to provide accommodation avoids an interruption in support during this transition period.
Students staying at the centre must comply with its internal rules. If work on the new residence is not completed, the allocation period may be extended again. To do so, UMa must request a renewal at least 30 days before the current period expires.
Santana Youth Centre was initially assigned for use as a university residence for the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic years, and was subsequently extended for 2024/2025 and 2025/2026.
