The application regime for investments in creating and regenerating systems that combine agriculture and forestry has been published, with a support rate of 80%.
Ordinance No. 436/2026 has been published, establishing the application regime for Intervention F.2.2 - Investment in the Creation and Regeneration of Agroforestry Systems, integrated into Axis F of Madeira's Rural Development (PEPAC R.A. Madeira).
This ordinance aims to promote land-use systems that combine forestry and agricultural exploitation, contributing to climate change mitigation, resource use efficiency, and the preservation of biodiversity and landscapes.
The support is granted as a non-repayable subsidy with a rate of 80%. The eligible beneficiaries are the same as for the afforestation intervention: holders or managers of land (public or private) and producer groups.
A minimum contiguous area of 0.5 hectares is required. The agroforestry system must have a tree density between 80 and 250 trees per hectare to ensure the continuity of agricultural use.
Eligible expenses are more comprehensive, including not only the installation of tree stands and protections but also the construction of water points, composting units, acquisition of farm implements, installation of honey-producing vegetation, and covering areas with biodiverse pasture.
As with the previous ordinance, applications are submitted online, and the maximum execution deadlines are 6 months for initiation and 24 months for completion.
