Duarte Barreto Appointed Director of Green Spaces and Nature Activities
Forestry engineer Duarte Nuno Ornelas Barreto has been appointed to lead the Directorate of Green Spaces and Nature Activities Services of the IFCN for a three-year term.
The Regional Government of Madeira has appointed the Forestry Engineering graduate, Duarte Nuno Ornelas Barreto, to the position of Director of Green Spaces and Nature Activities Services of the Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation, IP-RAM (IFCN). The appointment was formalized through Dispatch No. 344/2026.
Duarte Barreto, a senior technician at IFCN since 2005, was the sole candidate for the position, which was opened to public tender. The jury considered his academic profile and his extensive professional experience, which includes coordinating forest inventories and management plans, to be suitable for the directorial functions.
The appointment is made under a service commission regime, for a period of three years, and took effect from July 1, 2026. The position is a first-level intermediate management role.
