The Regional Government has approved the new organic statute for the Regional Civil Engineering Laboratory, defining its mission, responsibilities, and management structure.
The Regional Government of Madeira has approved Regional Regulatory Decree No. 15/2026/M, which establishes the organic structure of the Regional Civil Engineering Laboratory (LREC). This executive service is integrated into the Regional Secretariat for Equipment and Infrastructure.
The mission of the LREC is to carry out, coordinate, and promote scientific research, technological development, and best practices in civil engineering. Its work focuses on the study, monitoring, testing, and behavioral analysis of structures, infrastructure, buildings, dams, earthworks, geotechnics, hydraulics, environment, natural risks, and construction materials.

The LREC will be headed by a director, a position equivalent to a top-level senior management role. The laboratory's internal structure, still to be defined by a specific diploma, will follow a hierarchical model with core and flexible organic units.
The annex to the decree defines the allocation of management positions: 1 top-level senior management position (the director) and 4 first-level intermediate management positions.
The diploma revokes the previous Regional Regulatory Decree No. 17/2016/M, as amended and republished by Regional Regulatory Decree No. 11/2018/M, and enters into force on the day following its publication.
