Government praises four Madeiran athletes and coach for international sporting achievements
The Government Council approved public commendation resolutions for athletes and clubs from Madeira for medals won at world and European championships and the Mediterranean Games.
The Regional Government has publicly recognized the merit of four athletes, a coach, and their respective clubs for outstanding performances in high-level sports competitions. The commendation resolutions were approved at the plenary meeting on September 4.
The recognized achievements are as follows:
- Alípio Alexander Jardim da Silva (coach), Clube Desportivo e Recreativo dos Prazeres and Associação de Patinagem da Madeira - Commended by Regional Government Council Resolution No. 882/2026 for winning a silver medal and a bronze medal while serving the National Team at the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games, in the speed skating (road/marathon) discipline.
- Francisca Gomes Henriques, Club Sport Marítimo da Madeira and Associação de Patinagem da Madeira - Commended by Regional Government Council Resolution No. 883/2026 for winning a bronze medal at the 6th Stage of the Speed Track European Series 2026, in track speed skating.
- Ivone de Fátima Silva and Associação Cultural e Desportiva do Jardim da Serra - Commended by two distinct resolutions: by Regional Government Council Resolution No. 884/2026, for a gold medal while serving the National Team at the 2nd World Junior Paragliding Championship; and by Regional Government Council Resolution No. 885/2026, for winning the title of National Paragliding Champion.
- Pedro Manuel Rodrigues Marques, Clube Desportivo e Recreativo dos Prazeres and Associação de Patinagem da Madeira - Commended by Regional Government Council Resolution No. 886/2026 for winning a bronze medal at the Flanders Grand Prix and a silver and a bronze medal at the 6th Stage of the Speed Track European Series 2026, in cadet speed skating.
The commendations highlight that these achievements have brought prestige to the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
