€759,000 in funding for assistive products for people with disabilities in 2026

Five regional secretariats have defined the global budget for the APOIAR+ program, which funds products like wheelchairs or prosthetics for people with disabilities or temporary incapacity.

A joint order has been published establishing the funding for the Regional Assistive Products Program (APOIAR+) for the year 2026. The total amount set is €759,314.79 (seven hundred and fifty-nine thousand, three hundred and fourteen euros and seventy-nine cents).

This amount will be distributed among several regional entities, according to the prescription of assistive products, which include devices, equipment, or technical systems to compensate for activity limitations.

The distribution of funding is as follows:

  • €359,314.79 through the Budget of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, intended for:
    • Up to €59,314.79 for products prescribed by the Regional Directorate of Education and the Institute for Qualification.
    • Up to €250,000.00 for products prescribed by the Madeira Health Service (SESARAM) and funded by IASAÚDE.
    • Up to €50,000.00 for products prescribed by the Madeira Employment Institute.
  • €400,000.00 to be made available through the budget of the Madeira Social Security Institute (ISSM), for products it prescribes.

The order, signed by the regional secretariats of Education, Health, Finance, and Inclusion, also determines that the funding follows the principle of diversification of sources and selective suitability. Joint Order No. 85/2026 entered into force on September 16, 2026, but has retroactive effect from January 1, 2026.
