Government authorizes over 2.2 million euros for knee prostheses at SESARAM
The Regional Secretariat for Health and Civil Protection authorized the redistribution of 2.25 million euros for the acquisition of total knee arthroplasty items for SESARAM.
The Regional Secretariat for Health and Civil Protection has published an ordinance authorizing a significant budgetary change to strengthen healthcare in the Region. The measure aims to guarantee the supply of essential material for orthopedic surgeries.
Through Ordinance No. 393/2026, the Regional Government authorizes the redistribution and alteration of the budgetary charges foreseen in Ordinance No. 395/2025, of July 22. The objective is the acquisition of items for total knee arthroplasty, including the placement of equipment under a loan-for-use contract, for the Health Service of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, EPERAM (SESARAM, EPERAM).
The contract will have a duration of four years and a global base price of 2,257,200.00 euros (plus VAT at rates of 4% and 23%). The expenditure is spread over the economic years as follows:
- 2026: 284,469.04 €
- 2027: 752,400.00 €
- 2028: 752,400.00 €
- 2029: 467,930.96 €
The ordinance also establishes that the amount fixed for each year can be increased by the balance ascertained in the previous year, ensuring flexibility in financial execution. The expenditure is foreseen in financing source 513, economic classification D.02.01.11, of the SESARAM budget for 2026.
This authorization aims to ensure the continuity and quality of the orthopedics service at the central hospital, directly benefiting users who need this type of surgical intervention.
