A protocol between the Social Security Institute and Causa Social will fund nursing staff costs in two residential homes for the elderly.
The signing of a protocol to guarantee nursing care in two residential homes for the elderly (ERPI) directly managed by the Madeira Social Security Institute (ISSM, IP-RAM) in Funchal has been authorized. Regional Government Council Resolution No. 675/2026 approves a maximum financial support of 173,864.04 euros to Causa Social - Association for the Promotion of Citizenship.
This amount is intended to fund the costs of up to five nurses who will be assigned to the Vale Formoso Integrated Establishment (36 residents) and Santa Isabel (62 residents), during the period from January to December 2026. The protocol takes effect retroactively from January 1, 2026, ensuring the continuity of care without interruption after the termination of the previous cooperation instrument.
The decision is justified by the high dependency and multiple pathologies of the majority of institutionalized elderly people, which require increased healthcare. The solution is considered temporary and exceptional, aiming to address the urgent need for nursing staff in these units.
The Regional Government has authorized an expenditure of 415 million euros for the construction of the new Madeira Central and University Hospital, moving forward with a new public tender.
The Regional Health Directorate has opened an internal general access competition to fill a vacancy in the category of senior advisor in the health technician career, nutrition branch.
The Regional Government has postponed the entry into force of the beneficiary copayment for home respiratory care until October 1, 2026.
