The public utility status has been declared for the expropriation of land needed for the regularization and channeling of the Ribeiro da Raiz stream in Curral das Freiras, aiming to mitigate flood risks.
To enable the execution of the "Ribeiro da Raiz (Côrrego do Pau Formoso) - Regularization and Channeling - Curral das Freiras" project, the Regional Government approved Resolution No. 894/2026, which declares the expropriation of the necessary real estate to be of public utility. The project aims to increase population safety by mitigating the risk of displacements like the one that occurred in January 2024.
The expropriation covers eight plots of rustic land, identified in the resolution's annex, totaling an area of 796 m². The affected owners and entities are:
The cost of the expropriation will be borne by the regional budget, under project 50153. The expropriation procedure will be initiated by the Regional Directorate of Heritage.
