The Regional Government authorized an expenditure of 8.39 million euros (plus VAT) for an access and safety project in the high areas of the parish of Santo António, in Funchal, for the prevention and combat of forest fires.
The Government of Madeira has given the green light to a significant investment in natural risk prevention infrastructure in the parish of Santo António. The decision comes in the context of mitigating the risk of forest fires and their interaction with other hazards, such as mass movements and flash floods, in an area of strong urban-forest interface.
Through Resolution of the Regional Government Council No. 740/2026, the expenditure for the project “ACCESS AND SAFETY INFRASTRUCTURES IN THE HIGH AREAS OF SANTO ANTÓNIO - BARREIRA PATH SECTION - CURRAL VELHO” was authorized up to the amount of 8,390,000.00 euros, to which VAT at the applicable legal rate will be added.
The contracting procedure will be a public tender, with publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. The tender documents (tender program and specifications) have been approved. The competence for all acts within the scope of this tender has been delegated, with the power of sub-delegation, to the Regional Secretary for Equipment and Infrastructure.
The financial charges will be borne by funds from the Budget of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, in accordance with Ordinance No. 289/2026.
