The Regional Education Department has signed 21 open-ended contracts with operational assistants, starting between 1 June and 1 July 2026, for schools in Madeira.
The Regional Department of Education, Science and Technology has signed 21 permanent employment contracts with workers in the operational assistant career and category, in schools across the Region. The contracts are set out in Notices no. 268/2026, 269/2026 and 270/2026, published in the Official Gazette of Madeira (JORAM) on 23 June 2026, and take effect between 1 June and 1 July 2026. In practice, the move reinforces the non-teaching staff of the schools, that is, the workers who carry out operational functions in teaching establishments and who are not teachers.
The three notices, signed by the regional director of School Administration, António José de Carvalho Lucas, formalise the hiring of 21 people. All contracts are open-ended, meaning they have no fixed end date, and all workers are placed at the 1st remuneration position and remuneration level 5 of the general operational assistant career. The document does not state the salary corresponding to that level.
The contracts result from recruitment procedures already in place. Notice no. 268/2026 covers six workers, Notice no. 269/2026 covers nine and Notice no. 270/2026 covers six, making up the 21 contracts.

Of the 21 contracts, 11 take effect on 1 June 2026, one on 8 June, one on 9 June, two on 15 June and six on 1 July 2026. The majority of new entries are therefore concentrated at the beginning of June, but six workers will not start until early July.
Operational assistants are the non-teaching staff category of the public administration, responsible for support functions in schools. The contracts are concluded under Law no. 35/2014, of 20 June, which approves the general law on employment in public functions, and fall within the Consolidated Recruitment Map for the services and bodies of the regional public administration for 2026.
The workers were selected through recruitment reserves from common competitive procedures opened by notices no. 615/2023, 620/2023, 621/2023, 622/2023, 624/2023, 627/2023, 628/2023, 629/2023 and 630/2023. A recruitment reserve is the list of candidates approved in a competition that may be called upon to fill new posts. The notices rely on the powers delegated in point 1.2 of Dispatch no. 682/2025, of the Regional Secretary for Education, Science and Technology, of 26 September, published in JORAM no. 176, II Series, of 30 September.
In the notices concerning Joana Micaela Macedo Ramos and Estefani Elena Mendes Barradas, the document also refers to the merger approved by Ordinance no. 361/2025, of 4 July, in the context of the teaching establishment Escola Básica e Secundária com Pré-escolar e Creche D.ª Lucinda Andrade. An ordinance is a government instrument, in this case regional, that approves administrative organisation acts.
Ordinance No. 613/2026 makes the first amendment to the Regional Sports Support Plan for the 2025/2026 season, with a total value of 15,523,498.51 EUR, new allocation criteria and exceptional support for six sports entities.
Ordinance No. 606/2026 allocates the commitments for the limited tender for preventive and corrective maintenance of electrical installations, hotel equipment and other systems in the infrastructure under the SRE-DRPRI.
The president of the Executive Council of Caniçal Basic School with Preschool and Nursery has distributed responsibilities between its two vice-presidents and appointed a substitute in case of absence. The order ratifies actions taken since 9 July 2026.
