New Fuel Support Package Covers Transport, Firefighters, Charities, and Porto Santo Bakeries

Through Regional Government Council Resolution No. 897/2026, a new regime of exceptional and temporary supports was approved to compensate for the increase in fuel prices, taking as a reference the average prices for the week of March 5 to 13, 2026. The package, which revokes the previous one (Resolution No. 200/2026), covers the period from July to December 2026.

The main measures are:

• Public Collective Transport: Support of 15 cents per litre of diesel, when the price increases by more than 10 cents compared to the reference. Consumption considered up to 2,000 litres per vehicle/month (July to December 2026).
• Taxis (including 'T' letter): A single support of 135 euros per vehicle, per quarter (July to December 2026), corresponding to 15 cents/litre on a consumption of 300 litres/month.
• Firefighter Associations, Red Cross, and SANAS: Quarterly support of 360 euros per heavy vehicle (up to 1,200 litres) and 120 euros per light vehicle (up to 400 litres) for protection and rescue vehicles (July to December 2026).
• Charities and equivalent entities (IPSS): A single support of up to 600 euros per quarter to compensate for fuel costs of service vehicles (July to December 2026).
• Bakery on Porto Santo: Compensation of 90% of proven costs for maritime transport of raw materials from Madeira, for companies in the sector. Applies from September to December 2026, with a maximum total limit of 10,000 euros per company.

The operationalisation of the supports will be defined in joint ordinances by the responsible Government members. The Institute for Business Development (IDE) will be in charge of the measure related to Porto Santo.
