The Regulation for the Allocation of Financial Support to the Fisheries and Aquaculture Sector has been approved, establishing incentive schemes for collective interest actions of fishing communities.
The Regional Government of Madeira has approved a new regulatory framework to provide financial support to the fisheries and aquaculture sector. The measure aims to promote the environmental, economic, and social sustainability of the sector by supporting collective interest actions.
The scheme, approved by Ordinance No. 371/2026, is intended for entities such as Casas do Povo (People's Houses) and other private non-profit institutions that carry out relevant activities for the sector in the Region. The support, in the form of non-repayable grants, is designed to finance a wide range of actions, from modernisation and digitalisation to the protection of fishery resources and the promotion of gender equality.
Actions eligible for support include, among others:
Interested entities must meet a set of conditions, such as being up to date with tax and social security obligations, not being in insolvency proceedings, and demonstrating technical and financial capacity. Applications will be submitted through the Simplifica electronic platform, within deadlines to be defined by opening notices.
Evaluation will consider criteria such as the collective interest of the action, its relevance to fishing communities, and environmental sustainability. The granting of support will be formalised through the signing of programme contracts.
