Regional Government updates fees and quotas for inert material extraction and pebble collection in 2026
Through Ordinance no. 180/2026, the Regional Government of Madeira has updated the fees and quotas for the extraction of inert materials from the seabed and for the collection of pebbles on the Region's beaches, with retroactive effect to January 1, 2026.
Marine Inert Extraction
- Extraction fee: 1.14 euros per cubic meter.
- Maximum retail price: 27.57 euros per cubic meter.
- Global extraction quota: 203,000 m³, to be extracted rotationally between lots A (Ponta de Leão), B (Madalena do Mar), C (Lugar de Baixo/Tabua), and D (Ribeira Brava).
Pebble Collection
- Collection fee: 337.27 euros per cubic meter (exemption for use in public spaces).
- Collection quota: 100 m³ per year.
- Conditions: Collection is permitted only for the restoration of classified heritage or properties with a favorable opinion from the Regional Directorate of Culture. The sale of pebbles to the public is prohibited, and collection without a license is considered a very serious environmental offense.
