The Council of Government approved a decree establishing preventive measures for an area designated for regional housing policy in the Amparo zone, São Martinho.
The Regional Government Council of Madeira approved, in a plenary meeting on August 6, 2026, a regulatory decree defining preventive measures for an area designated for regional housing policy. The area in question is located in Amparo, in the parish of São Martinho, municipality of Funchal.
The Regional Government Council Resolution No. 801/2026 has as its main objective the approval of the said decree, which establishes the safeguard regime for the land, preventing new constructions or changes of use that could compromise the future development of public or supported housing in that location. This is a fundamental administrative step that precedes the eventual definitive classification of the area for housing purposes.
The decision was signed by the Regional Secretary for Tourism, Environment and Culture, António Eduardo de Freitas Jesus, in his capacity as President of the Regional Government.
