A capital injection of 45 million euros has been authorized for the Madeira Health Service to strengthen solvency and reduce overdue payments to suppliers.
The Regional Government Council has approved a capital injection of 45 million euros for the Health Service of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, EPERAM (SESARAM, EPERAM). The measure, authorized by Regional Government Council Resolution No. 818/2026, primarily aims to cover losses and reduce the entity's commercial debt, which was due on June 30, 2026.
This amount comes from an extraordinary transfer of 75 million euros from the State Budget for 2026, specifically allocated for reducing the Region's debt. The Regional Government decided to allocate 45 million euros of this allocation to SESARAM to address the significant increase in overdue payments in the post-pandemic period.
The capital injection will be made in two tranches: 20 million euros by September 30, 2026, and the remaining 25 million euros, at the latest, by December 31, 2026. The funds will be used exclusively to settle debts to external suppliers, following criteria of seniority and excluding debts under litigation, default interest, and debts to other public sector entities.
The operation, which does not imply changes to the entity's statutes or commercial registration, aims to strengthen SESARAM's solvency, promote financial sustainability, and ensure the regular supply of medicines and clinical materials.
