Application for Submarine Cable Landing Concession in Porto Santo Under Public Consultation
EMACOM has requested a 25-year concession to use water resources and install a submarine cable at Ribeiro Salgado Beach in Porto Santo.
The Regional Secretariat for Tourism, Environment and Culture has made public a formal application for a water resource use permit. The application was submitted by the company EMACOM - Telecomunicações da Madeira, Unipessoal, Lda. and is subject to public consultation.
The project in question is the "Atlantic CAM Project - Segment SCM1.3 - Porto Santo - Submarine Cable Landing at Ribeiro Salgado Beach". The requested concession covers a total area of 769.77 m² of the public maritime domain and will have a duration of 25 years.
According to Notice No. 8/2026, interested parties now have the opportunity to comment on the application. The public consultation period runs from August 14 to September 24, 2026.
Any objections or observations must be submitted in writing to the Regional Directorate for Environment and Maritime Affairs, located at Rua Dr. Pestana Júnior n.º 6, 3rd floor, in Funchal, or via the email address [email protected].
This public consultation procedure is mandatory, in compliance with Decree-Law No. 226-A/2007 of May 31, which regulates the regime for the use of water resources.
