The maximum retail prices for fuels in the Autonomous Region of Madeira have been approved by the Regional Government and will take effect at 0:00 on 3 November 2026. Super unleaded petrol IO 95 may not be sold above 1.937 € per litre, road diesel may not be sold above 2.145 € per litre, and coloured and marked diesel may not be sold above 1.697 € per litre.
What has been decided#
The decision is set out in Joint Order No. 101/2026, published in the Official Gazette of the Autonomous Region of Madeira on 3 November 2026. It is a joint order, meaning an act signed simultaneously by two members of the Regional Government: the Regional Secretary for the Economy, José Manuel de Sousa Rodrigues, and the Regional Secretary for Finance, Duarte Nuno Nunes de Freitas.
In this context, approving (homologating) means formally endorsing the values. The prices are maximums, which means fuel stations may not exceed them, but they may charge lower prices.
Prices by fuel type#
- Super unleaded petrol IO 95: 1.937 € per litre
- Road diesel: 2.145 € per litre
- Coloured and marked diesel: 1.697 € per litre
Three types of fuel are covered by the order. The abbreviation IO refers to the octane rating, a measure of how well the fuel resists detonation in the engine. Coloured and marked diesel is a restricted-use variant that has its own tax regime and is not intended for general consumption in vehicles.
Who is covered#
The prices apply to the Autonomous Region of Madeira. The document does not refer to other regions of the country.
Legal framework#
The approval is made under paragraphs 1 and 3 of Article 3 of Ordinance No. 25/2022, of 26 January, in its current wording. An ordinance is a government instrument that regulates specific matters, and the amendment referred to in the text means that the version in force has already been modified since its original publication.
What the document does not state#
The Official Gazette does not present the previously applicable prices, so it is not possible to tell from the published text whether these values represent an increase or a decrease compared with the previous period. Nor does it state the technical or economic reasons behind the newly approved values.
