The Regional Government has decided to launch an international tender, limited by pre-qualification, to award the new concession for operating games at Casino do Funchal.
The Regional Government Council approved, through Resolution No. 723/2026, the opening of a tender procedure for the conclusion of a new concession contract for the exclusive operation of games of chance in the Funchal Gaming Zone. This decision comes as the term of the current concession ends and the need to ensure the continuity of the Casino do Funchal's operation.
The procedure will be a tender limited by pre-qualification, with international publicity, in accordance with Decree-Law No. 422/89, of December 2nd (gaming law), and the Public Procurement Code. The objective is to select a private partner to ensure the operation of the casino, an infrastructure considered fundamental for the economic and touristic dynamism of Funchal and the region.
The resolution determines that the Regional Secretariat for Tourism, Environment and Culture will be tasked with carrying out the entire tender procedure and concluding the contract. The operation of the Casino do Funchal is seen as an important factor for diversifying the tourism offer, creating jobs, making investments, and collecting revenue for the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
