Government approves 10 cents per liter diesel support for Madeira fishing vessel owners
Ordinance No. 360/2026 establishes the rules for granting an extraordinary support of 10 cents per liter of colored and marked diesel to professional fishermen, to compensate for the increase in fuel prices.
The Regional Government of Madeira has approved direct financial support for professional fishing vessel owners to cope with the increase in fuel prices. The support, regulated by Ordinance No. 360/2026, grants a subsidy of 10 cents per liter of colored and marked diesel consumed.
This extraordinary support was decided by Resolution No. 200/2026, of April 1, and now sees its application and payment process detailed. The goal is to mitigate the effects of the "frequent upward variations" in fuel prices, which have burdened fishing activity in the region.
Who can benefit and how it works
Vessel owners (individuals or companies) who own fishing vessels with a valid license, registered in the Madeira fleet, and who have been active in the period between April 6 and June 30, 2026 can apply.
The support of 10 cents per liter will be granted only in weeks where the average diesel price has an increase of more than 10 cents per liter, compared to the average price recorded in the reference week (March 9 to 13, 2026). The calculation of the final amount for each vessel owner will follow a specific formula defined in the regulation.
Application process and amounts
Applications must be submitted exclusively on the online platform "SIMplifica" within a 15-day period after the ordinance comes into force. Applicants must submit supporting documentation, including authorizations for consultation of their status with Social Security and the Tax Authority.
The maximum budget allocation for this support is set at 52,391.00 euros. If the total of eligible applications exceeds this amount, a pro-rata reduction will be applied. Furthermore, the support is subject to European *de minimis* aid rules for the fisheries sector, and cannot exceed 40,000 euros per company over a three-year period.
The managing entity for the process is the Regional Directorate of Fisheries (DRP), which will analyze the applications and proceed with payment by bank transfer.
