Government creates extraordinary support for farmers affected by depressions

An extraordinary financial support, with a maximum value of 401 thousand euros, has been created for agricultural producers in Madeira who suffered losses from the depressions "Cláudia" and "Emília" at the end of 2025.

The Regional Government approved the creation of extraordinary financial support to compensate Madeiran farmers whose crops were severely damaged by the depressions "Cláudia" and "Emília" at the end of 2025. The measure is established in Regional Government Council Resolution No. 742/2026 and its attached regulation.

The support, with a maximum total value of €401,000.00, covers temporary and permanent crops, with the exception of banana cultivation, which will have its own support mechanism. It is a lump-sum and non-repayable aid, falling under the de minimis aid regime.

The calculation of support for each farmer will take into account the number of plants or area affected, the average historical productivity, and the average unit value of the lost production. The formula applied corresponds to 80% of the value of the lost production.

Payments will be made through the West Coast Association (ACOESTE), which will receive a contribution of up to €12,027.31 to cover the administrative costs of the operation. Beneficiary farmers must have declared their losses by December 31, 2025, and maintain productive cultivation of the affected plots.
