Regional Government approves new core structure for the Regional Directorate of Fisheries
The Regional Directorate of Fisheries now has a new organization, divided into four specialized service directorates to strengthen sector management and sustainability.
The Regional Government of Madeira has published Ordinance no. 287/2026, which defines the new core structure of the Regional Directorate of Fisheries (DRP). This reorganization, following Regional Regulatory Decree no. 2/2026/M, aims to equip the service with more effective means for implementing regional policy in the fields of fishing, aquaculture, and marine resource monitoring.
The new DRP structure now includes four core organic units, each with specific missions:
- Directorate of Public Procurement and Legal Affairs (DSCPAJ): Created to coordinate public procurement procedures, legal-administrative support, management of misdemeanor proceedings, and implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation.
- Directorate of Planning and Financial Administration (DSPAF): Responsible for financial management, budgetary control, and execution of national and community funds, including the role of intermediate body for the EMFAF.
- Directorate of Fish Markets and Warehouses (DSLE): Focused on managing first-sale fish infrastructure, ensuring the cold chain, traceability, and compliance with hygiene and food safety standards (HACCP).
- Directorate of Monitoring, Studies and Marine Research (DSEIMar): Dedicated to scientific research, resource prospecting, fisheries oceanography, and technical support for sustainable exploitation, including the management of data collection programs and marine literacy.
The ordinance also establishes that the flexible structure of the DRP will include three 2nd-degree intermediate management positions. The diploma ensures the continuity of existing service commissions and the validity of ongoing tenders, ensuring an administrative transition without interruptions for the affected services.
