Government terminates concession of Forte de São João Baptista due to non-compliance

The Regional Government Council determined, through Resolution no. 233/2026, the sanctioning termination of the concession contract for the Forte de São João Baptista, signed in 2018 with the company Nowhere Else - Turismo Rural, Lda.

The decision is based on the definitive non-compliance attributable to the concessionaire, which did not start the commercial operation of the property nor carried out the mandatory adaptation works, despite having benefited from extended deadlines. As a consequence, the loss of the security deposit provided in favor of the Autonomous Region of Madeira was declared. The company exercised its right to a prior hearing in March 2026, and the final decision was based on the terms of the Public Procurement Code.
