Regional Government praises four Madeiran athletes for sporting achievements
The Regional Government Council approved four resolutions to publicly praise athletes, clubs, and regional associations for their achievements in national and international championships.
The Regional Government of Madeira, meeting in plenary on July 4, 2026, approved a set of resolutions to recognize and publicly praise the merit of Madeiran athletes and their support structures. The decisions were published in the Official Journal of the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
The praises aim to highlight the excellent sporting results that brought prestige to the Autonomous Region of Madeira. The resolutions specifically mention the following athletes, clubs, and associations:
- António Edgar Martins Freitas, the Clube Desportivo e Recreativo Santanense, and the Associação de Patinagem da Madeira, for winning the National Speed Skating Championship title, track variant, in the 200-meter flying start event, in the senior men's category (Regional Government Council Resolution No. 687/2026).
- Jéssica Carolina Santos Rodrigues, the Clube Desportivo e Recreativo dos Prazeres, and the Associação de Patinagem da Madeira, for winning the National Speed Skating Championship title, track variant, in the 200-meter flying start event, in the senior women's category (Regional Government Council Resolution No. 688/2026).
- João Lourenço Pimenta Viveiros, the coaches, the Ludens Clube de Machico, and the Associação Regional de Canoagem da Madeira, for winning two gold medals at the 2026 ICF SUP World Cup English Riviera, in the canoeing discipline of Stand Up Paddle, in the Waves and Technical Race categories (Regional Government Council Resolution No. 690/2026).
- Leonor Cruz Almodôvar Ladeira, the Clube Desportivo e Recreativo dos Prazeres, and the Associação de Patinagem da Madeira, for winning the National Speed Skating Championship title, track variant, in the 500-meter + D Sprint event, in the senior women's category (Regional Government Council Resolution No. 691/2026).
These acts of public praise constitute a formal recognition by the Regional Government of the work, dedication, and success of Madeira's athletes and sports organizations.
