Insular Student Program renewed with new support regulations
The Regional Government ensures the continuity of mobility support for Madeiran students until 2027, adapting the program to new national standards.
The Regional Government of Madeira has approved, through Regional Government Council Resolution no. 650/2026, the continuation of the Insular Student Program and a new Regulation for Specific Support for Student Passengers. This measure, effective since June 5, 2026, aims to mitigate the costs of air and sea travel between the Region, the mainland, and the Azores.
Main points of the new regulation:
- Scope: Treasury support for 4 round trips (or 8 one-way trips) per school year.
- Fixed price: The cost to be borne by the student is €59.00 per trip (one-way or round trip).
- Validity: The support applies to trips made until June 15, 2027.
- Platform: Management is ensured by the Agency for Innovation and Modernization of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, IP-RAM (AIM, IP-RAM), which will provide a web platform for submitting requests and documentation.
- Protocols: AIM, IP-RAM will enter into protocols with participating Travel and Tourism Agencies, which will act as intermediaries in the process of subrogation of the right to the Territorial Continuity Mechanism.
The new regime requires students to sign a subrogation declaration, allowing AIM, IP-RAM to receive the reimbursement of the Territorial Continuity Mechanism directly from the payment service provider, thus ensuring the necessary financial advance for the purchase of tickets.
