The Regional Government Council approved, in a plenary session held on April 30, 2026, the signing of five sports development program contracts (CPDD) aimed at co-financing travel and daily allowance expenses for sports agents. These grants are intended to mitigate costs increased by insularity and ensure the participation of athletes, coaches, and officials in regional and national competitions during the 2025/2026 sports season.

The contracts, approved by the Regional Secretary of Education, Science and Technology, are effective until December 31, 2026, and are financed through the budget of the Regional Directorate of Sports, within the scope of the air and sea travel support project.

The Regional Government Council approved a public commendation for Maritimo da Madeira - Futebol, SAD, for winning the Liga Portugal 2 national title.
The Regional Government has revoked support for the Funchal Kick-Boxing Club and authorized a new program contract with the Funchal Karate Club.
