Government praises Madeiran athletes for winning the Portuguese Basketball Cup
The Madeiran Executive has publicly praised Marcy Ariana Sousa Gonçalves and Maria João Bettencourt Correia.
The Regional Government Council, through Resolutions no. 193/2026 and no. 194/2026, approved a public commendation for Madeiran athletes Marcy Ariana Sousa Gonçalves and Maria João Bettencourt Correia, both playing for Sport Lisboa e Benfica.
The recognition follows their victory in the 2025/2026 Portuguese Cup in the senior women's basketball category. The Government highlights that the athletes' performance brought prestige to the Autonomous Region of Madeira at a national level.
