Doctor Jose Eduardo Tomas Cunha de Freitas has been appointed General Coordinator of the Health Center Group of the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
The Regional Government, through the Regional Secretariat of Health and Civil Protection, has appointed doctor Jose Eduardo Tomas Cunha de Freitas to the position of General Coordinator of the Health Center Group of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ACES), in accordance with Order no. 168/2026.
The appointment, on a service commission for a period of three years, follows the cessation of duties of Fabio Manuel Farinha Camacho. The new coordinator is a Graduate Assistant in the special medical career with a specialty in General and Family Medicine and has an extensive curriculum in regional public health, having served as Health Delegate for the Municipality of Santa Cruz and as a member of the SESARAM Emergency, Catastrophe and Biological Risk Commission.
The capacity of the elderly support establishment was formally increased after modernization works financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan.
The Regional Health Secretariat authorized an increase of nearly 93,000 euros in the budget for the requalification of integrated long-term care units, raising the total amount to over 4.4 million euros.
The Council of the Government approved the 2026 action plan for the Integrated Continuing Care Network (REDE), establishing coverage targets and the renewal and creation of 526 new inpatient and home support places.
