The Regional Government Council has ratified the amendment to the 1st Revision of the Calheta Municipal Master Plan, aiming to correct non-conformities with the Madeira Coastal Zone Program.
Through Regional Government Council Resolution no. 114/2026, the amendment to the 1st Revision of the Calheta Municipal Master Plan (PDM) was ratified. The decision focuses on nine zones identified as 'Coastal Protection Areas' and 'Complementary Coastal Protection' that presented incompatibilities with current land use.
The assessment zones covered by the reclassification to 'Other Coastal Zone Uses' include: Arco da Calheta (Faja do Mar, Faja and Serra Agua), Calheta (Sao Joao), Estreito da Calheta (three zones), Jardim do Mar and Ponta do Pargo (Golf). The measure aims to adjust the plan to the current reality, considering the existence of buildings, infrastructure and consolidated urban areas, ensuring the safeguarding of heritage and the safety of the population.
