The Regional Government approved the first objective modification to the Fast Road operation and maintenance contract, adjusting transition phase deadlines to avoid public service interruptions.
The Regional Government Council approved, through Resolution No. 694/2026, the first objective modification to the contract for the "Acquisition of Operation and Maintenance Services for the Fast Road between Ribeira Brava and Machico Sul".
The change aims to guarantee the uninterrupted continuity of this essential public service, related to road safety, patrolling, user assistance, and infrastructure maintenance. The modification adjusts the deadline of the so-called 'Transition Phase', which does not entail direct financial burdens for the Region.
Specifically, the contract, signed on June 5, 2026, with AIGIH Madeira, ACE, for a price of 46,950,000 euros (plus VAT) and an initial term of 49 months, has been altered. The operation and maintenance phase will now last 48 months, starting at 00:00 on July 29, 2026. The transition phase has been reduced to 26 days, to take place between July 3 and July 28, 2026.
The decision was made to ensure that the new co-contractor immediately assumes operations after the end of the previous concession contract, scheduled for July 28, avoiding any interruption. The resolution emphasizes that the modification is based on reasons of public interest and does not grant any right to rebalance the contract's financial equilibrium.
