New Scholarship Regulation Approved by the Madeira Regional Government

The Regulation establishing the rules for awarding Study Grants, Local Grants, Artistic Grants, and Merit Grants to higher education students has been published, applicable from the 2026/2027 academic year.

The Madeira Regional Government has approved the new Scholarship Regulation to support attendance in higher education courses. The document, which forms an integral part of Resolution of the Regional Government Council No. 836/2026 (whose annex was published by rectification), establishes four types of financial support for students.

The regulation defines the following supports:

  • Study Grant: For students attending courses outside the RAM (or in Porto Santo studying in Madeira). The monthly amount varies between €75 and €210, depending on household income. It includes a Supplement of €150/month for courses abroad or of an artistic nature relevant to the Region.
  • Local Grant: For students attending courses at higher education institutions based in the RAM. It has a fixed annual value of €500.
  • Artistic Grant: For students in artistic courses abroad considered relevant to the Region. It corresponds to 30% of the annual tuition fee paid.
  • Merit Grant: Awarded to the top three students from each secondary school course (by area) who enter higher education. The amounts are €1,800 (1st place), €600 (2nd), and €600 (3rd), doubled for courses in the Health area.

The regulation enters into force the day after its approval and applies to grants awarded from the 2026/2027 academic year.
