Regional Government updates milk production support and dairy cow aid

The Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Fisheries has introduced changes to the milk sector support scheme, setting the subsidy value per animal.

Ordinance no. 298/2026 has been published, which makes the first amendment to Ordinance no. 271/2023, adjusting the application and control measures for aid to the milk sector in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, specifically under Sub-action 2.2.2 - Dairy Cow Aid.

The main changes introduced by the Regional Government include:

  • Aid Value: The support is set at €250.00 per dairy cow.
  • Eligibility Rules: It has been established that if the discrepancy found during verification exceeds 30%, no aid will be granted to the producer.
  • Transitional Provision: The new exclusion rules apply to applications for the year 2025 that have not yet been subject to a final decision.

This amendment, which takes effect from January 1, 2026, follows the need to align the regional aid scheme with the rules of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and European Commission decisions on the Global Program for outermost regions.
