The Regional Government Council approved the proposal to grant the concession and management of the Calheta Hydroelectric Power Plant to Empresa de Eletricidade da Madeira, S.A.
The Regional Government Council, meeting in plenary on July 2, 2026, approved through Resolution no. 660/2026 the proposal for a Regional Legislative Decree that formalizes the granting of the concession for the private use of water resources associated with the Calheta Hydroelectric Power Plant.
The aforementioned facility, classified as equivalent to a multi-purpose project, will be managed by Empresa de Eletricidade da Madeira, S.A., the entity now officially recognized as the manager of the enterprise. The proposal also defines the terms and conditions for the exercise of this management, now moving forward for approval in the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
