Over 1.6 Million Euros to Restore Tiles in Six Madeira Churches
The Regional Government has authorized funding for the conservation and restoration of tile heritage in six religious monuments in Funchal and Machico.
A significant budget has been authorized for the preservation of an important cultural heritage of Madeira. Ordinance No. 524/2026, jointly signed by the Regional Secretary for Finance and the Regional Secretary for Tourism, Environment and Culture, authorizes the distribution of budgetary charges for the acquisition of conservation and restoration services for tile heritage in six churches and chapels.
The total amount for the procedure is €1,415,000.00 (one million, four hundred and fifteen thousand euros), plus VAT at the legal rate. The funds will be distributed across the economic years 2026 (€303,283.21), 2027 (€784,741.26), and 2028 (€326,975.53).
The monuments covered by this restoration project are:
- Chapel of Our Lady of Nazaré
- Church of Saint John the Evangelist
- Church of Saint Peter
- Funchal Cathedral
- Church of Saint Lucia, Funchal
- Church of Our Lady of the Conception, Machico
