Madeira Culture Department to Rent New Space on Rua das Pretas in Funchal
The Regional Culture Directorate will move to a ground-floor space on Rua das Pretas in Funchal to solve overcrowding issues.
The Regional Government has authorized the signing of a lease contract for a new space to house the services of the Regional Culture Directorate (DRC). The measure aims to solve overcrowding problems in the current workplaces, which are compromising the management of the institution's editorial collection.
The decision was formalized by Regional Government Council Resolution No. 874/2026, which authorizes the lease of an independent unit in Funchal. The main points of the decision are:
- Location: Floor/unit identified by the letter A (ground floor) of the urban building at Rua das Pretas, No. 41, parish of São Pedro, municipality of Funchal.
- Purpose: Accommodation of the services of the Regional Culture Directorate, to improve working conditions, conservation of the editorial collection, and efficiency of services.
- Justification: The DRC faces overcrowding, especially in the publication warehouse in the Santo Amaro neighborhood, making it impossible to store more stock. The Region does not own suitable properties in Funchal with the necessary conditions.
- Process: The lease was authorized by dispensing with a market consultation, given that the unit is already predetermined and meets the appropriate conditions.
- Legal Framework: The draft contract was approved and the Regional Secretary for Tourism, Environment and Culture was mandated to sign the contract on behalf of the Region.
The expense for the lease in 2026 is already included in the regional budget.
