The Regional Government has approved a new extension of the transitional period for the age limit of taxi vehicles, with new deadlines extending until 2030, citing difficulties in the automotive sector.
The Regional Secretariat for Equipment and Infrastructure has published Ordinance No. 420/2026, which approves a new extension of the transitional period for complying with the age limit for vehicles used in taxi transport activity in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
Regional legislation (Ordinance No. 573/2019) establishes that taxis must be less than 15 years old from the date of first registration. However, successive extensions to this deadline have been granted. The last one, through Ordinance No. 292/2025, extended compliance with the limit until December 31, 2026.
The new ordinance justifies the extension with the global economic situation, which significantly affects the automotive industry, driving up the acquisition values of new vehicles and increasing delivery times. Difficulties in the supply of parts and vehicles due to geopolitical instability are also mentioned, an impact that is felt in an "increased manner" in this outermost region.

The Regional Government has renewed the term of Carlos André Camacho Alves as Regional Director of Youth for another three years, under a service commission regime.
