Regional Government approves new structure for the Regional Directorate of Livestock and Animal Welfare

The Regional Government of Madeira has approved the new core structure of the Regional Directorate of Livestock and Animal Welfare, defining the competencies of its organic units.

Through Ordinance no. 288/2026, published on June 30th, the Regional Government of Madeira approved the core structure of the Regional Directorate of Livestock and Animal Welfare (DRPec). This measure follows the change in the designation and organization of this service, as provided for in Regional Regulatory Decree no. 9/2026/M.

The new DRPec structure comprises three core organic units, led by service directors:

  • Management and Administration Services Directorate (DSGA): Responsible for supporting the Regional Director, financial management, human resources, administrative modernization, document management, and GDPR implementation.
  • Food Safety Services Directorate (DSSA): Focused on supervising veterinary activities, public health defense, control of foodstuffs and by-products, and risk management in the food chain.
  • Livestock Development and Animal Protection Services Directorate (DSDPPA): In charge of livestock promotion, zootechnical improvement, animal welfare, animal health, and management of the Madeira Zootechnical Station and the Madeira Sheep Farming Center.

The ordinance also establishes the maintenance of the service commission for the holder of the 1st-degree intermediate management position of the former Livestock Development Services Directorate, who transitions to the new structure.
