The Regional Government Council has approved the project to alter and expand the Quinta do Furão tourist development in Santana, authorising an increase in its maximum capacity to 75 accommodation units and 154 beds. The four-star property currently has 65 units and 134 beds.
Regional Government Council Resolution No. 952/2026 allows the development to exceed the 120-bed limit set for this type of property under the Tourism Development Plan for the Autonomous Region of Madeira. The decision applies the exception for tourist developments in rural areas, which allows capacity to be increased by up to 80% when legal requirements are met, including the provision of green spaces and gardens.
The project plans to expand the development's area from 45,894 to 49,364 square metres by acquiring a 3,470-square-metre plot of land for green spaces and gardens. It also includes a spa, sauna, an expanded restaurant and breakfast area, a bakery, a pizzeria, a terrace, new operational facilities and a reorganisation of staff service areas.
The environmental measures outlined include the installation of photovoltaic panels, four parking spaces with electric vehicle charging, and VRV air-conditioning systems with A++ and A+++ energy efficiency ratings. Approval and licensing are conditional on compliance with the functional, environmental and equipment requirements described in the project, as well as all other applicable rules.
The decision concerns Quinta do Furão - Sociedade de Animação Turística e Agrícola de Santana, Lda. Resolution No. 952/2026 enters into force on the day after its publication.
