The Government Council authorized a program-contract to financially support the 'International Bridge Open 2026', a prestigious international sporting event aimed at boosting senior tourism in Madeira.
The Regional Government of Madeira has approved financial support for the organization of a major international sporting event in the Region. The measure aims to promote tourist animation and attract a specific segment of visitors.
Through Regional Government Council Resolution No. 857/2026, the signing of a program-contract with the Madeira Bridge Association was authorized. The objective is the execution of the project called “International Bridge Open 2026”, which will take place between October 29 and November 9.
For the pursuit of this project, a financial contribution that will not exceed 15,000.00 € (fifteen thousand euros) has been granted. The program-contract will be effective until June 8, 2027.
In justifying the decision, the Regional Government highlights that the initiative strengthens Madeira's presence in major international bridge circuits, contributing to the dynamization of the regional economy by attracting high-quality senior tourism. The event is aligned with Madeira's tourism promotion strategy for the 2022-2027 period, increasing the destination's visibility and demonstrating the Region's capacity to host events of international scale.
The support is granted under the legal regime for supporting tourism promotion and animation projects, regulated by Ordinance No. 78/2001.
