Government praises three sporting achievements by Madeira athletes
The Regional Government has approved three public commendations for international and national results in sailing and speed skating. The honours recognise athletes Paulo Vasco Manso, Francisca Gomes Henriques and António Edgar Martins Freitas, as well as their respective clubs and associations.
The Regional Government Council has approved three public commendations for athletes from Madeira and the sporting organisations associated with their achievements. The honours were formalised through Regional Government Council Resolutions No. 922/2026, No. 923/2026 and No. 924/2026.
- Sailing - Resolution No. 922/2026: commendation for Paulo Vasco Manso, the Madeira Nautical Association and the Madeira Regional Sailing Association for winning the bronze medal as part of the crew of Empeiria USA 169 at the J70 World Championship, in the J70 class and dinghy sailing discipline.
- Speed skating - Resolution No. 923/2026: commendation for Francisca Gomes Henriques, Club Sport Marítimo da Madeira and the Madeira Skating Association for winning the national speed skating title at the 2026 National Individual Road Championship. The athlete won the 100-metre sprint, one-lap sprint, 5,000-metre points race and 3,000-metre inline race in the senior women's category.
- Speed skating - Resolution No. 924/2026: commendation for António Edgar Martins Freitas, Clube Desportivo e Recreativo Santanense and the Madeira Skating Association for winning the national speed skating title at the 2026 National Individual Road Championship in the 100-metre sprint, in the senior men's category.
The resolutions cite the prestige these sporting results have brought to the Autonomous Region of Madeira as grounds for the commendations.
