The Regional Government of Madeira approved a resolution to publicly praise the sporting achievement of a Madeiran athlete and the structures that support him. The decision was made in a plenary session of the Government Council on July 3, 2026.
The reason for the praise is the conquest of the National Speed Skating Championship title, in the track variant, in the 500 meters +D Sprint event, in the senior men's category. The executive considered that this result brought prestige to the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
The entities formally praised by Regional Government Council Resolution No. 689/2026 are:
- The athlete Marco António Abreu Lira;
- The Clube Desportivo e Recreativo dos Prazeres;
- The Madeira Skating Association.
This type of public recognition is a way for the Regional Government to highlight and value sporting successes that project the name of Madeira at a national level.
