Regional Government praises five Madeiran athletes and clubs for sporting merit
The Regional Government Council approved five public commendation resolutions for athletes, clubs, and regional associations for their recent national and international achievements.
The Regional Government Council of Madeira, meeting in plenary session on May 21, 2026, decided to grant public commendations to several athletes and sports entities in the Region, recognizing the prestige achieved through their sporting results:
- Marco António Abreu Lira (athlete), Clube Desportivo e Recreativo dos Prazeres, and Associação de Patinagem da Madeira, for winning the National Speed Skating Champion title (500 meters sprint, senior men) - Resolution no. 502/2026.
- Márcio Moisés Moniz Teixeira and Oriana Pimenta de Freitas (athletes), Clube Naval do Funchal, coaches, and Associação Regional de Canoagem da Madeira, for the bronze medal at the 1st Stage of the ICF Ocean Racing World Cup 2026 (SS2 class, mixed category) - Resolution no. 503/2026.
- Leonor Cruz Almodôvar Ladeira (athlete), Clube Desportivo e Recreativo dos Prazeres, and Associação de Patinagem da Madeira, for winning the National Speed Skating Champion title (500 meters sprint, senior women) - Resolution no. 504/2026.
- Joana José Ferraz Soares (athlete), Associação Cultural e Desportiva do Jardim da Serra, and Associação de Atletismo da Região Autónoma da Madeira, for winning the National Athletics Champion title at the National Up Hill Mountain Running Championships - Resolution no. 505/2026.
- Jéssica Carolina Santos Rodrigues (athlete), Clube Desportivo e Recreativo dos Prazeres, and Associação de Patinagem da Madeira, for winning four National Speed Skating Champion titles at the 2026 Individual Track National Championship - Resolution no. 506/2026.
