Regional Government publicly commends two specialist doctors
The Regional Government Council has approved, in plenary session, the granting of public commendations to two reference doctors in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, recognizing their professional path and dedication to the Regional Health Service:
- Dr. João Manuel Rodrigues Silva (Resolution no. 556/2026): Commended for his extraordinary technical skills in the specialty of Cardiothoracic Surgery and for his humanism throughout a career spanning more than four decades. The doctor, who retired in May 2026, held clinical management positions and was part of the support group for the construction of the New Madeira Hospital.
- Dr. Miguel Dinis Jardim Homem Costa (Resolution no. 557/2026): Commended for his technical rigor and vision in the specialty of Internal Medicine. The doctor was the pioneer and coordinator of the first Frail Patient Unit in Portugal, based at the Hospital dos Marmeleiros, a project that treated 600 patients between 2021 and 2026 and was distinguished with several national health awards.
